Welcome back students and parents! Students in the Business & Finance Academy have another exciting year in store. Our academy covers an array of pathways including business management, finance, and hospitality marketing. Not only will students have the opportunity to work with Class Act Federal Credit Union if they choose, they will also be able to work directly with other Louisville businesses including The Galt House, GE, The Convention and Visitors Bureau, and local restaurants through internships and job shadowing. Our motto in the Business & Finance Academy is: We Make It Count! We believe in teaching students how to make the most of their time at Doss to ensure they have a successful future. All of our teachers are trained in Project Based Learning and will work hard to provide each student with a unique, relevant and meaningful education. We are looking forward to working with your student this year.
The Business and Finance Academy consists of three pathways; Business Management, Finance and Hospitality and Marketing. A pathway is a three or four course sequence that a student takes.
The Finance pathway is a program that prepares individuals to
perform a wide variety of customer services in banks, insurance
agencies, savings and loan companies, and related enterprises.
These classes include instruction in communications and public
relation skills, business equipment operation, and technical skills
applicable to the methods and operations of specific financial or
insurance services. This pathway is continuing its partnership
with Class Act Federal Credit union and the students have the
opportunity to work at the credit union locations both on campus
and off campus.
.
Business management is a program that generally prepares
individuals to plan, organize, direct, and control the functions and processes
of a firm or organization. This includes
instruction in management theory, human resources management and behavior,
accounting and other quantitative methods, purchasing and logistics,
organization and production, marketing and business decision-making.
We are very excited about our second year in hospitality and marketing.
This program prepares students to provide direct retail services to hotel
and motel clients and customers in a variety of settings. The classes
includes instruction in the principles of hotel/motel operations, customer
sales and assistance operations and techniques, telephone operations,
and basic office management.
