At Doss, Project Based Learning (PBL) is one of our core instructional beliefs. It inspires a passion for learning and connects the school to the greater community. It truly makes our Mission possible – PBL engages students and teachers in real world, authentic learning opportunities. PBL prepares students for their lives after high school by instilling in them soft skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and empathy. These are the things that can’t be taught from text books and handouts, but come naturally to students when they work to solve a critical, real-world problem. Each course’s content standards have become the tools we use to answer tough questions and solve complicated problems, as opposed to a checklist of course requirements about which students are lectured and quizzed. It is truly an exciting time to be a Doss Dragon! Every student participates in a PBL experience in every one of their classes, both in the fall and spring semesters. Ask your student today what exciting problem or question they’re working to solve this semester!
